Facial rejuvenation with faci injectables can reduce signs of aging by smoothing out wrinkles, softening fine lines, and filling in age-related volume loss. Here are some of the key differences between the facial injectables that Dr. Jason Martin uses to minimize signs of facial aging.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from botulinum toxin type A and temporarily relaxes the muscles of the upper face. This treatment improves the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles in the forehead, brow, and crow’s feet near the eyes. Its effects last up to six months, and many patients undergo regular BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments to maintain results.
JUVÉDERM® Products
Products in the JUVÉDERM® family are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in the body and improves skin hydration and volume. Rather than inhibiting muscle contractions like BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM® products add volume by filling in wrinkles or areas that are thinning. JUVÉDERM® XC is used to augment the lips and mouth area and to correct moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as smile lines, marionette lines, and vertical lip lines. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is a thicker concentration and can provide more profound and long-lasting results for those with severe facial wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is used to correct volume loss in the cheeks, forehead, and around eyes, nose, and mouth. Treatment with JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC produces the longest-lasting results of any filler, with results lasting up to two years.
Restylane® Products
Restylane® is also comprised of hyaluronic acid and can add volume and smooth wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. Restylane® Silk is a slightly smoother formula with smaller particles than Restylane® and is used to enhance the lips and mouth area with even more natural-looking results. Restylane® differs from JUVÉDERM® primarily in texture: JUVÉDERM® tends to be smoother while Restylane® tends to be more granular. Restylane® may be more likely to leave bumps during application, but it is highly cohesive and may be better suited to enhance volume in areas such as under the eyes.
BELOTERO® Products
Also composed of hyaluronic acid, products in the BELOTERO® family can rehydrate the skin and increase facial volume. BELOTERO® HYDRO can restore skin elasticity and deep hydration. BELOTERO® VOLUME restores facial volume in the cheeks, chin, and temples. BELOTERO® INTENSE can enhance the lips, Cupid’s bow, marionette lines, and smile lines. BELOTERO® SOFT can treat perioral lines and crow’s feet, while BELOTERO® BALANCE enhances the lips and treats marionette lines, smile lines, and glabellar lines. Results with BELOTERO® products typically last six to twelve months.
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is made of a different substance called calcium hydroxylapatite. This substance is found within human bones and stimulates collagen growth. RADIESSE® is used to treat deeper wrinkles around the chin and mouth area, such as the nasolabial folds. The calcium hydroxylapatite in RADIESSE® stimulates new collagen growth over time, which may continue to improve the appearance of facial skin through the weeks and months after treatment.
Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic is comprised of yet another substance: synthetic polylactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that can add facial volume. Used to correct signs of fat loss in the face, Sculptra® Aesthetic can improve facial contour and smooth out wrinkles such as smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. Sculptra® Aesthetic is administered over a few treatment sessions and gradually increases collagen production, producing results that subtly improve over time for up to two years.
