Many people have excess submental fullness, also known as a “double chin.” Weight gain or fluctuations can cause it, but it can also be caused by genetics and aging. No matter how healthy and active a person is, they can suffer from stubborn fat in this area. KYBELLA® is a cutting-edge injectable treatment offered at my practice that targets this area specifically, removing fat to create aesthetically pleasing definition beneath the chin. KYBELLA® has the potential to make you appear younger and more slender with just a few treatment sessions.

Who Can Benefit?

Healthy men and women who have excess fat beneath the chin are candidates for KYBELLA®. Most relate to one or more of the following:

  • You feel that fat in this area makes you appear heavier or older than you actually are.
  • You do not want to have surgery to remove your “double chin.”
  • Fat beneath your chin does not go away despite a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

How Does It Work?

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that promotes the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once injected into the fat beneath the chin, the deoxycholic acid permanently destroys fat cells only, resulting in a noticeable reduction in submental fullness.

The Roadmap to Natural Beauty

KYBELLA® is Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved as a non-surgical treatment designed to remove submental fat.

It is considered completely safe for use in this area of the body. All of our staff are KYBELLA®-trained healthcare specialists and thoroughly understand how to safely and effectively administer the treatment.

KYBELLA® injections may result in swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin, which will subside after a couple of days.

This is considered a “lunch-hour” procedure by many, and no real downtime after treatment is required.

How many treatments will I need?

Since every person’s facial shape, profile, amount and distribution of fat, and desired results are different, the number of necessary treatments will vary among patients. Treatments are given at least one month apart and should not exceed six treatments.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects from KYBELLA® are usually temporary and resolve on their own. They may include:

  • Swelling and bruising
  • Pain or numbness
  • Redness
  • Hardened areas

An uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, or difficulty swallowing are very rare side effects.

How long will results last?

Results with KYBELLA® are permanent since the fat cells in the area are destroyed. Even if you gain a significant amount of weight after treatment, your submental area will remain more sculpted and smooth than it would if you did not have the area treated.
